Bringing Quality Healthcare Closer to Home

Repaired ambulance back into service

When our people are healthy, they can farm, learn and build the district.

The Foundation

A Growing Network of Care

Talensi's health landscape is anchored by thirty-six (36) health facilities — one hospital at the district capital, seven health centres, and twenty-seven CHPS zones — served by a dedicated workforce of nearly 292 health workers, including medical doctors, midwives, general and community health nurses.

Nine sub-districts are served across the district, ensuring that even remote communities have a point of care. But the challenge remains: distribution of staff and facilities is uneven, and emergency transport has historically been limited.

Two CHPS Compounds & A Repaired Ambulance

Recently, the Hon. MP for Talensi, Daniel Dung Maalug, alongside the DCE, broke ground for the construction of 2 CHPS compounds — projects expected to dramatically improve access to quality healthcare. At the same time, the Assembly proudly announced the return of a fully repaired ambulance back into service, strengthening emergency response across the district.

Priorities for the District Health Management Team

  • Expansion of CHPS compounds to bring primary care into every community.
  • Reliable ambulance and emergency transport services.
  • Better staff accommodation and a DHMT office to attract health professionals.
  • Equitable distribution of doctors, midwives and nurses across sub-districts.
  • Timely NHIS reimbursements so health centres can function effectively.

Tackling the Top Diseases

The ten top diseases — malaria, upper respiratory tract infections, rheumatism and joint pains, skin diseases, diarrhoea, pneumonia, typhoid, acute eye and urinary tract infections — remain priority focus areas. Prevention, education and access are key to reducing their burden.

Health is the foundation of every other development. When our people are healthy, they can farm, learn and build the district.

Way Forward

The Assembly continues to work with the District Health Management Team in line with government's national health policy to ensure equitable, accessible and quality care for every citizen of Talensi.
