Hon. John Millim Nabwomya

Unanimously confirmed as District Chief Executive for Talensi on 16th April 2025 after securing 100% of the votes from Assembly members, Hon. Nabwomya has pledged to work to improve the living conditions of the people of Talensi.

"For my people, I need cooperation from them. I want to assure them that I am here to work for them, so if I succeed they would be part of it."

An academic whose research focuses on cultural tourism and a geographer concerned about environmental degradation, the DCE has prioritised basic education, agriculture, road network and the environment as his focus areas.

The DCE's Vision

Focus Areas for a Rising Talensi

"My overall vision is to bring about significant improvements in the lives of the people of Talensi at the end of my tenure."

Education

Boosting BECE performance, providing 2000+ dual desks annually, rehabilitating schools and eliminating child participation in small-scale mining during school hours.

Agriculture

Modernising the sector through Planting for Food & Jobs, and inviting investors to revamp the Pwalugu Tomato Factory with ample raw material supply.

Road Network

Tarring the Tongo–Sheaga–Duusi road, Tongo–TongoBeo road and the Yinduri–Santeng and Wakii–Tengzug roads to open the hinterlands and boost tourism.

Environment

Embarking on "Greening Talensi" — planting around schools, using forest brigades to protect vegetation, and building fire belts to limit degradation.

Tourism & Culture

Encouraging the construction of an Eco-museum to preserve critical artefacts that tell the story of the entire Talensi land.

Cooperation & Unity

Calling for effective cooperation and tolerance from the people, and working with the Regional Minister and MP to advocate for the district.

Facts About Talensi

The Land of Rocks

Heritage & Geography

Talensi is home to the famous Tongo hills, caves and shrines — a sacred landscape that tells the story of the entire Talensi land. The district is rich in cultural festivals such as Golbo, Daa, Tenlebgre and Tingan, laden with traditional rites and rituals that attract tourists from all over the world.

Agriculture is the main economic activity, accounting for about 90% of employment. Major crops include millet, sorghum, maize, rice, groundnuts, leafy vegetables, pepper, watermelon and onion, alongside livestock farming.

The district also has significant gold mining activity and is home to the historic Pwalugu Tomato Factory, originally built in the 1960s under President Kwame Nkrumah.
